Kenya Safaris: 8 days Masai mara – Lake Nakuru – Aberdares – Samburu
Day 1
Nairobi to Masai Mara Game Reserve
Driving Distance: 270km (5hrs)

Our driver guide will pick you up from the Nairobi hotel for the drive to mara. We will make a scheduled short stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint to view the valley below and get to know how it was formed million of years ago. View the magnificent volcanic mountains Suswa and Mt Longonot on the floor of the rift valley and the geyser plumes of olkaria geothermal station. Proceed on to the mara arriving at 1:00pm to check into the Mara Serena lodge.
Go on a game drive at 4:00pm to view the wildlife of Masai mara. The Masai mara is the northern extension of the larger Serengeti ecosystem with an area of 1510sqkm. The reserve is world famous for its large abundance of animals including the grazers. The reserve is home to over 3 million wildlife spread around undulating savannah grasslands with immense food material. The reserve has the highest concentration of big cat predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas. Mara has wide open spaces which makes the park ideal for game drives.
The wildebeest migration also takes place in the Masai mara every July to October where over 1.5 million animals cross the mara and Serengeti plains in search of fresh grass. This annual event is very popular especially the mara river crossing.

Day 2 and Day 3
Masai Mara Game Reserve Full 2 Days Game Drive

This morning we will depart the lodge for the mara river with packed lunch boxes. We will have en route game drives along the way to the river. On arrival we will find a good spot to watch the mara river crossing and wait. The wildebeests start streaming to the river in hundreds and all of a sudden they break loose and jump into the river in a mad rush to beat the raging currents and the crocodiles. Hundreds die at the river and you will take pictures of all the action here.
Lunch will be at the mara river as you watch the hippos and crocodiles in the water. An afternoon game drive as you return to lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Masai Mara Game Reserve – Lake Nakuru National Park

On the third day we leave for lake Nakuru arriving in time for lunch and check in at the Lake Nakuru Sarova lion hill lodge. Enjoy a buffet lunch and go on a game drive at 4:00pm to see the pink flamingos and the rhinos. Nakuru is famous for its tree climbing lions and the many rhinos as well as the easy to see leopards. Dinner and overnight at the lion hill lodge.
Day 5
Lake Nakuru to Aberdare National Park
Driving Distance: 118km (3hrs)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Wake up to a cup of coffee and snacks and go for an early morning game drive at 6:30am until 8:30am. You will see all the predator animals as they go for a hunt in the park. The leopards may still be up and about and the lions are on the prawl. You may be lucky to see a lion kill or a leopard ambush in the early morning game drive.
Return to the lodge for full breakfast and later depart lake Nakuru for aberdare national park arriving in Nyeri outspans hotel at 13:00hrs. Enjoy a meal and later transfer to the Treetops lodge with the transfer van. You will leave most of your luggage at the outspans hotel as they limit the weight at the tree lodges in aberdares. At the treetops, you will be able to view wildlife at the water hole from the restaurant, terraces and their wide windows in your rooms. Dinner and overnight at the treetops lodge.
Day 6
Aberdare National Park to Samburu National Reserve

After breakfast, you will depart for Samburu national reserve at 8:00am arriving in time for Lunch and check into Samburu Serena lodge. Samburu national park is located in a land of deep contrasts and unique wildlife. Samburu landscape is semi arid and dry with sandy soils and short shrubby trees. The dry monotony of light sandy terrain is broken by the meandering ever green vegetation of river Ewaso Ngiro made of reeds, doulm palms and sedge grass. The Ewaso ngiro is the lifeline of all wildlife in Samburu as all wildlife must come to the river at least once a day to drink water. The blue Mathew Mountains forms a welcome background to all the contrasting types of terrain in the fore ground.
You will arrive at 1:00pm in time for check into Samburu Serena lodge and an evening game drive at 4:00pm until dusk. Dinner and overnight at the Samburu Serena hotel.
Day 7
Samburu National Reserve and Shaba National Park
Driving Distance: 150km (7-9hrs)
Game Hours: (All day)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
You will wake up early for a breakfast and then depart the safari lodge with packed lunches for the full day game drive in Samburu and Shaba national parks. Your first game drive will be by river Ewaso Ngiro to watch the wildlife as they come to the river and the crocodiles in the water.
We will cross the arid terrain of Samburu watching the game to include the animals unique to this area like the Beisa Oryx, Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and many others. There are lots of elephants in this region as well that you will see near the river or feeding on grass in some of the areas lush green patches. Continue to Shaba national park and enjoy the magnificently curved rocks and banks of river Ewaso and the hills and valleys in this beautiful park.
Enjoy your packed lunch enroute and afternoon game drive as you drive back to Serena Samburu lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 8
Samburu National Reserve –Nairobi

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
You will wake up early at Samburu Serena lodge and have a cup of coffee before venturing out for the early morning game drive at the Ewaso ngiro river. Watch the early risers as they hunt for food in the plains. You can see a pride of lions planning a hunt or a leopard laying in ambush for some herd of gazelles coming to the river.
Depart the lodge after a breakfast at 9:00am with a lunch enroute. Drop off in Nairobi hotel or at the JKIA airport for your departure flight out of Kenya.
